Professor Adrian Sterling
Professor Adrian Sterling has specialised for many years in intellectual property law, particularly in the fields of national, international and regional copyright, computer and data protection law. He is a Consultant to Lamb Chambers, Middle Temple, London, where he practised while at the Bar. He is a Professorial Fellow of the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute, Queen Mary, University of London, a Visiting Professor in the School of Law, King’s College, University of London, and a Vice President of the British Copyright Council. His full length texts include Copyright Law in Australia and the Rights of Performers, Authors and Composers in the Pacific Region (1981) (with G.E. Hart); The Data Protection Act 1984 (2nd edition, 1985); Copyright Law in the United Kingdom and the Rights of Performers, Authors and Composers in Europe (1986, Supplement 1987) (with M.C.L. Carpenter); Intellectual Property Rights in Sound Recordings, Film and Video (1992, Supplement 1994) and World Copyright Law (3rd edition October 2008). His studies include The International Copyright Protection System (containing proposals for an International Copyright Protection System, embracing the establishment of an International Copyright Tribunal, rules on private international law in the context of copyright and related rights and copyright liability in the context of the Internet), Space Copyright Law: the new dimension (published in Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA, Winter-Spring 2007, 346), The GILA System for Global Internet Licensing , and Orphan works and other orphan material: proposed amendments to UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988: these studies are available online on the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute website at http://www.qmipri.org/research.html. His most recent work International and European Copyright Law: Consolidated Texts and Commentary is in course of preparation for publication.
